FoldDisplay 사용 설명서

1. 준비물1. What you need

필요한 것은 세 가지뿐입니다. 케이블도, 계정도 필요하지 않습니다.

Three things. No cable and no account required.

PC 한 대 — macOS 14 이상, 또는 Windows 10/11.
A computer — macOS 14 or newer, or Windows 10/11.
폰이나 태블릿 — Android 8.0 이상, 또는 iPhone · iPad(iOS/iPadOS 17 이상).
A phone or tablet — Android 8.0 or newer, or an iPhone / iPad on iOS or iPadOS 17 or newer.
같은 Wi‑Fi — 두 기기가 같은 네트워크에 있어야 서로를 찾습니다. Wi‑Fi가 안 되면 USB로도 됩니다(5장).
The same Wi‑Fi — both devices need to be on one network to find each other. If Wi‑Fi is not an option, USB works too (see section 5).

연결 방향은 반대입니다The direction may surprise you 폰이 기다리고, PC가 폰에게 연결을 겁니다. 그래서 폰에서는 앱을 열어 두기만 하면 되고, 연결 버튼은 PC 쪽에 있습니다. The phone listens and the computer connects out to it. So on the phone you only have to leave the app open; the connect button lives on the computer.

어디서 설치하나요Where to install from 모든 앱이 스토어에 공개되어 있습니다. Windows는 Microsoft Store, Android는 Google Play, iPhone·iPad는 App Store에서 설치하세요. Mac은 Apple 공증을 마친 DMG를 직접 다운로드합니다. 스토어를 쓸 수 없는 Windows PC는 GitHub Release의 서명된 설치파일(x64 · ARM64)을 받을 수 있습니다. Every app is available from its store. Install from Microsoft Store on Windows, Google Play on Android, and the App Store on iPhone and iPad. On a Mac, download the Apple-notarized DMG directly. Windows PCs that cannot use the Store can get the signed installers (x64 / ARM64) from the GitHub Release.

macOS 2. Mac에서 처음 한 번2. Mac, the first time

Mac에는 설치할 드라이버가 없습니다. 확장 화면을 만드는 기능은 macOS에 이미 들어 있습니다. 대신 권한 두 개를 켜야 하고, 이것이 Mac에서 유일하게 한 번 해야 하는 일입니다.

There is no driver to install on a Mac — the ability to create an extra display is already part of macOS. What there is instead is two permissions, and turning them on is the only one-time job here.

Mac용 DMG 다운로드 가능Mac DMG available Apple 공증과 Developer ID 서명을 마친 DMG를 받으세요. Gatekeeper 검증을 통과한 배포본입니다. Download the Apple-notarized, Developer ID-signed DMG. This distribution passes Gatekeeper validation.

앱을 응용 프로그램 폴더로 옮기고 실행합니다. Move the app to Applications and open it.
창은 뜨지 않습니다. 메뉴 막대(화면 오른쪽 위 시계 옆)에 FoldDisplay 아이콘이 생기면 실행된 것입니다.

No window appears. It is running when the FoldDisplay icon shows up in the menu bar, next to the clock.
화면 기록 권한을 켭니다. Turn on Screen Recording.
이 권한이 없으면 Mac 화면을 캡처할 수 없어 아무것도 전송되지 않습니다.

Without it the Mac's screen cannot be captured, so nothing is sent at all.
시스템 설정 → 개인정보 보호 및 보안 → 화면 기록 → FoldDisplay 켜기 System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording → turn FoldDisplay on
손쉬운 사용 권한을 켭니다. Turn on Accessibility.
이 권한이 없으면 화면은 정상적으로 나오지만 폰에서 하는 터치가 조용히 무시됩니다. 앱이 고장 난 것처럼 보이는 가장 흔한 원인입니다.

Without it the picture works normally and touches on the phone are silently ignored. This is the most common reason the app looks broken when it is not.
시스템 설정 → 개인정보 보호 및 보안 → 손쉬운 사용 → FoldDisplay 켜기 System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → turn FoldDisplay on
권한을 켠 뒤 FoldDisplay를 다시 실행합니다. Quit and reopen FoldDisplay.
macOS는 이미 실행 중인 앱에 새 권한을 바로 주지 않습니다. 메뉴 막대 아이콘 → 종료 후 다시 여세요.

macOS does not hand a new permission to an app that is already running. Menu bar icon → Exit, then open it again.
첫 연결 때 "로컬 네트워크" 를 허용합니다. Allow "Local Network" at the first connection.
폰을 찾을 때 macOS가 한 번 물어봅니다. 거절하면 폰 찾기가 아무것도 못 찾습니다.

macOS asks once, when the app first looks for your phone. Decline it and finding the phone will never return anything.

목록에 FoldDisplay가 안 보이면If FoldDisplay is not in the list 목록 아래 + 를 눌러 응용 프로그램 → FoldDisplay 를 직접 추가한 뒤 스위치를 켜세요. 손쉬운 사용은 대개 저절로 올라오지만, 화면 기록은 직접 추가해야 하는 경우가 있습니다. Press + under the list and add Applications → FoldDisplay by hand, then switch it on. Accessibility usually lists itself; Screen Recording sometimes has to be added this way.

어느 권한이 빠졌는지 모르겠다면Not sure which one is missing? 메뉴 막대 아이콘 → 연결 안내 및 현재 상태 를 열면 지금 빠진 것만 짚어 줍니다. Menu bar icon → Connection guide and status shows only the ones that are actually missing right now.

Windows 3. Windows에서 처음 한 번3. Windows, the first time

Windows에는 확장 화면을 만드는 기능이 기본으로 없어서, 서명된 가상 디스플레이 드라이버를 딱 한 번 설치합니다. 권한 설정은 필요 없습니다.

Windows has no built-in way to create an extra display, so a signed virtual display driver is installed once. There are no permissions to grant.

FoldDisplay를 설치하고 실행합니다. Install FoldDisplay and run it.
시계 옆 숨겨진 아이콘(∧) 안에 트레이 아이콘이 생깁니다.

A tray icon appears under the hidden icons (∧) arrow next to the clock.
가상 디스플레이 드라이버를 설치합니다. Install the virtual display driver.
트레이 아이콘 우클릭 → 선택 기능: 가상 디스플레이 드라이버 받기…

Right-click the tray icon → Optional: get the virtual display driver…
이후로는 다시 설치하지 않습니다. You never install it again.
폰이 연결되면 화면이 나타나고, 연결을 끊으면 화면만 사라집니다. 드라이버는 그대로 남습니다.

The display appears when the phone connects and goes away when it disconnects. The driver stays put.

4. 폰 · 태블릿 앱4. The phone / tablet app

Android — Play 스토어에서 FoldDisplay 를 설치합니다. 폴더블(갤럭시 Z 폴드 등)은 접고 펴는 것을 인식해 화면 비율을 따라갑니다.
Android — install FoldDisplay from the Play Store. On foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold it follows the panel as you fold and unfold it.
iPhone · iPad — FoldDisplay의 고정 App Store 링크입니다. Apple 공개 전에는 페이지를 찾을 수 없다고 표시될 수 있지만, 공개되는 즉시 이 주소에서 바로 설치할 수 있습니다.
iPhone / iPad — use the permanent FoldDisplay App Store link. The page may be unavailable before Apple publishes the app; after publication, the same URL installs it directly.

앱에서 할 일은 두 가지뿐Only two things to do in the app

앱을 열어 둡니다.Leave the app open.
화면에 대기 중 과 이 기기의 주소가 표시됩니다. PC가 연결해 올 때까지 그대로 두면 됩니다.

It shows waiting along with this device's address. Leave it there until the computer connects.
첫 연결 때 한 번 승인합니다.Approve once, at the first connection.
처음 붙는 PC에 대해서만 물어봅니다. 승인하면 그 PC는 다음부터 묻지 않고 바로 연결됩니다.

It only asks about a computer it has not seen before. Approve it and that computer connects straight away from then on.

기기 쪽 설정Settings on the device

대기 화면의 설정(기어)에서 이 기기를 허용한 컴퓨터 목록을 보고 해제할 수 있습니다. 해제한 컴퓨터는 다음 연결 때 다시 승인을 요청합니다. 통계 오버레이(fps · 지연 시간)도 여기서 켜며, 스트리밍 중에는 세 손가락 탭으로도 켜고 끌 수 있습니다.

The waiting screen's Settings (gear) lists the computers this device has allowed and lets you forget one — a forgotten computer asks for approval again the next time it connects. The stats overlay (fps, latency) also lives there, and a three-finger tap toggles it while streaming.

앱을 백그라운드로 보내지 마세요Keep the app in the foreground 다른 앱으로 나가면 화면이 멈춥니다. 다시 FoldDisplay를 앞으로 가져오면 이어집니다. Switch to another app and the picture freezes; bring FoldDisplay back to the front and it resumes.

5. 연결하기5. Connecting

모든 연결 조작은 PC 쪽 메뉴에서 합니다. macOS는 메뉴 막대 아이콘, Windows는 트레이 아이콘입니다.

Every connection control is on the computer: the menu bar icon on macOS, the tray icon on Windows.

보통은 이것으로 끝납니다Usually this is all it takes

FoldDisplay 아이콘 → 연결 (폰 찾기) FoldDisplay icon → Connect (find my phone)

같은 Wi‑Fi에 있는 기기를 자동으로 찾아 붙습니다. 한 번 붙은 기기는 이름으로 기억되어, 다음부터는 메뉴에 “○○에 연결” 로 나옵니다.

It finds a device on the same Wi‑Fi and connects. A device you have connected to once is remembered by name, so the menu then reads "Connect to ○○".

못 찾을 때: 주소를 직접 입력When it cannot find it: type the address

회사나 학교 Wi‑Fi처럼 기기끼리 서로 못 보게 막아 둔 네트워크에서는 자동 검색이 실패합니다. 폰 앱 화면에 보이는 주소를 그대로 넣으세요.

On networks that isolate clients from each other — many office and campus networks do — discovery finds nothing. Type in the address the phone app is showing.

FoldDisplay 아이콘 → 주소 직접 입력… FoldDisplay icon → Enter address…

Wi‑Fi가 아예 안 될 때: USBNo Wi‑Fi at all: USB

Android는 USB 케이블로도 연결됩니다. 폰에서 USB 디버깅을 켜고, PC에서 포트를 넘긴 뒤 127.0.0.1 로 붙입니다.

Android also connects over a USB cable. Turn on USB debugging on the phone, forward the port on the computer, then connect to 127.0.0.1.

그다음 주소 직접 입력 에 127.0.0.1 을 넣으면 됩니다.

Then put 127.0.0.1 into Enter address.

끊기Disconnecting

연결 끊기 를 누르면 확장 화면이 사라지고, 그 화면에 있던 창들은 원래 화면으로 돌아옵니다.

Disconnect removes the extra display; windows that were on it move back to your own screen.

잠깐 끊겨도 화면은 유지됩니다A brief drop does not cost you the display Wi‑Fi가 순간적으로 끊기면 몇 초간 화면을 붙잡아 둔 채 다시 연결을 시도합니다. 창 배치가 흐트러지지 않게 하기 위해서입니다. If Wi‑Fi blips, the display is held for a few seconds while the connection is retried, so your window layout is not disturbed.

6. 화면 설정6. Display settings

연결된 뒤에는 메뉴에서 실제 모니터와 같은 것들을 조절할 수 있습니다.

Once connected, the menu offers the same things a real monitor would.

해상도Resolution	화면에 여백이 남거나 글자가 너무 작을 때 바꿉니다. 기본값은 연결된 기기의 패널에서 계산되므로 대개 그대로 두는 것이 가장 잘 맞습니다.Change this if the picture is letterboxed or the text is too small. The default is derived from the panel of the device that connected, so leaving it alone usually fits best.
글자 크기(배율)Text size (scale)	같은 화면을 더 크게 쓸지, 더 넓게 쓸지 고릅니다. 각 항목이 실제로 남기는 바탕화면 크기를 함께 보여 줍니다.Trades size for room. Each option also shows the desktop area it actually leaves you.
화질Picture quality	데이터 절약 · 표준 · 고화질 중에서, 그리고 60 fps · 30 fps 중에서 고릅니다. 선택은 저장되어 다음 연결에도 유지됩니다. macOS에서 화질(전송률)은 스트리밍 중에도 바로 적용되고, fps와 Windows에서의 변경은 다음 연결부터 적용됩니다.Choose Data saver, Standard or Sharper, and 60 or 30 fps. The choice is remembered for later connections. On macOS the quality (bitrate) applies mid-stream; fps, and any change made on Windows, applies from the next connection.
배치Position	화면이 놓이는 자리와 역할을 정합니다. 7장에서 자세히 다룹니다.Where the display sits and what role it plays. Covered in section 7.
어느 화면인지 확인Identify (flash the display)	화면을 잠깐 번쩍여, 여러 모니터 중 어느 것이 폰인지 알려 줍니다.Flashes the display briefly so you can tell which of several monitors is the phone.
로그인할 때 자동으로 실행Start at login	Mac을 켤 때마다 FoldDisplay가 메뉴 막대에 올라옵니다. 연결까지 자동으로 하지는 않습니다.Puts FoldDisplay in the menu bar every time you log in. It does not connect on its own.

7. 배치 — 실제 모니터처럼 자리를 기억합니다7. Arrangement — it keeps its place, like a real monitor

진짜 모니터는 뽑았다 꽂아도 책상의 같은 쪽으로 돌아옵니다. 이 확장 화면도 그렇게 동작합니다. 한 번 자리를 잡아 두면 다음 연결부터 그 자리로 돌아옵니다.

A real monitor comes back to the same side of the desk after you unplug and replug it. This display behaves the same way: place it once and it returns there on every later connection.

The edge it is already on is ticked.
주 디스플레이로 사용Use as main display	메뉴 막대와 새 창이 이 화면에 나타나게 합니다. 다시 누르면 원래 화면으로 돌아갑니다.Moves the menu bar and new windows onto this display. Select it again to hand that back.
주 화면 미러링Mirror main display	확장이 아니라 같은 화면을 그대로 폰에 띄웁니다. 발표하거나 다른 사람에게 보여 줄 때 씁니다. 미러링 중에는 배치 항목이 의미가 없어 흐리게 표시됩니다.Shows the same picture on the phone instead of extending. Useful for presenting. While mirroring, the position items mean nothing and are greyed out.
기억된 위치 지우기Forget remembered position	저장된 자리를 지웁니다. 다음 연결부터는 macOS가 정하는 기본 위치에 나타납니다. 저장된 것이 있을 때만 메뉴에 보입니다.Clears the stored placement, so the next connection uses the position macOS picks. Only shown when there is something to forget.

끌어다 놓은 자리도 그대로 기억합니다Dragging it works too

프리셋 네 개는 출발점일 뿐입니다. 시스템 설정 → 디스플레이 에서 사각형을 직접 끌어 옮기면 그 자리가 그대로 기억됩니다. 메뉴의 화면 배치(시스템 설정) 로 바로 열 수 있습니다.

The four presets are only a starting point. Drag the rectangle in System Settings → Displays and that exact position is what gets remembered. The menu's Arrange displays (System Settings) takes you straight there.

기기마다 따로 기억합니다Remembered per device 폰은 왼쪽, 태블릿은 오른쪽 — 이렇게 기기별로 각자의 자리를 가집니다. 연결한 기기를 알아보고 그 기기의 자리로 되돌립니다. Phone on the left, tablet on the right: each device keeps its own side of the desk, and whichever one connects is put back where it belongs.

Mac에서만 기억됩니다macOS only 배치 기억은 현재 macOS 앱의 기능입니다. Windows에서는 Windows의 디스플레이 설정이 배치를 관리합니다. Remembered placement is a feature of the macOS app today. On Windows, arrangement is handled by the Windows display settings.

8. 문제 해결8. Troubleshooting

증상부터 찾으세요. 대부분은 권한이나 네트워크 둘 중 하나입니다.

Start from the symptom. Almost everything here is either a permission or the network.

움직임이 뚝뚝 끊긴다Motion is stuttery	Wi‑Fi 신호가 약하거나, Mac이 다른 무거운 작업 중Weak Wi‑Fi, or the Mac is busy with something heavy	공유기에 가까이 가고 5 GHz를 쓰세요. Mac을 오래 켜 둔 상태라면 재부팅이 눈에 띄게 도움이 됩니다.Move closer to the router and prefer 5 GHz. If the Mac has been up a long time, a restart helps noticeably.
붙였다 뗐다를 여러 번 하니 화면이 안 생긴다After many connect/disconnect cycles no display appears	macOS의 알려진 문제입니다.A known macOS problem.	로그아웃 후 다시 로그인하거나 Mac을 재시동하면 초기화됩니다.Log out and back in, or restart the Mac. Either resets it.

폰과 태블릿을 두 번째 모니터로Your phone and tablet as a second monitor
